Click the color well in the Tools palette to bring up macOS's color picker.
Pixen extends the color picker by adding a Pixen Colors mode, which can be accessed by clicking the last tab. Here, you can create and organize schemes of colors, and even detach palettes into their own panels. To make a color active, simply click it. To change a color, drag a replacement color on top of it. By organizing colors into palettes, it's easy to reuse colors across documents.
Pixen can even import and export color palettes in the Adobe Color Table, Microsoft Palette, JASC Palette, and GIMP Palette formats.
Each document window also contains a color frequency palette in the right sidebar. When you modify its colors, the image changes accordingly.
